Patient Participation Group (PPG)
What is the role of the Patient Participation Group (PPG)?
The PPG are a group of patients who meet, together with health professionals to ensure that patients are given a ‘voice’ within the GP practice. It is the PPG’s responsibility to ensure that plans, services and activities respond to patient’s priorities and needs and to act as a critical friend to the Practice. The PPG does not discuss any patient’s personal health details.
The aims of the Patient Participation Group (PPG)
- To offer opinions in a constructive manner and to put forward ideas on behalf of other patients.
- To improve the provision of health care.
- To improve communication between surgery, patients and the wider community about matters concerning the surgery and health in general.
- To provide assistance in development of new services.
- To encourage a spirit of self help and support amongst patients to improve their health and social care.

Join us as an active volunteer and use your personal experiences to contribute to the planning of local primary healthcare services. Every member’s contribution is valued and appreciated. It is essential that all information is kept strictly confidential; you would therefore be required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to starting.

Examples of work completed to date by PPG Members
· Developing and completing annual patient surveys
· Planning health awareness weeks, held at the surgery which included co-ordinating a range of health specialists and speakers
· Assisting in obtaining patient feedback to aid the planning of health services
· Developing and arranging the display of Health promotion materials and campaigns for the Practice Patient Waiting room.
· Supporting the practice with the Covid & Flu Campaign
Where and when do we meet?
The meetings take place on the first Thursday morning of the month at 10.00am, on ten occasions per year. Subgroups that are formed from a few PPG members who meet more frequently when working on specific projects.
Patient Locality Group
Members represent the PPG on this locality group which comprises of PPG members from the 5 Leek and Biddulph GP Practices which form the Primary Care Network (PCN) for Leek and Biddulph. This group works closely with the management team of the PCN to ensure that the Patient voice is considered when determining the additional services to be provided in the member GP Practices e.g. Clinical Pharmacists, Care co-ordinators, Occupational health, Social Prescriber, Mental Health Practitioner.
